Wine Reception: Honoring Virginia "Ginie" Cassin & Family

  • Ernest Hemingway Birthplace Home Museum 339 North Oak Park Avenue Oak Park, IL, 60302 United States (map)

Virginia “Ginie” Cassin is no doubt an institution in Oak Park. Born and raised here, Oak Park High class of 1942, Ginie went on to marry and raise eight children with her late husband Bill. Throughout, she remained committed to community, and was the long time village clerk (1973-1993).  During that time, she was instrumental in implementing Oak Park’s first liquor licensing, cable ordinances as well as a staunch fair housing activist.
Ginie joined the Hemingway Foundation in 1989 and with the support of her family, was pivotal in the restoration of the Hemingway birthplace. She served as its longtime board chair and continued in recent years as Director Emerita.
She has been active in over a dozen local organizations, and served as a secret weapon to many of them, for as most of us know, no one could say no to her.
Soon, Ginie will leave Oak Park for Minnesota to be closer to family. Before she departs, please join us to thank her for countless contributions to the Hemingway Foundation and our community.
