Book Discussion: In Our Time with Renee Malknecht

  • Ernest Hemingway Birthplace Museum 339 North Oak Park Avenue Oak Park, IL, 60302 United States (map)

As part of our Hemingway in the 21st Century series, Renee Malknecht, former literature teacher and current volunteer at the birthplace, will be leading a discussion on In Our Time,  Ernest Hemingway's first collection of short stories published in the United States (1925).  Ms. Malknecht regularly taught this book and A Farewell to Arms, while teaching at Aviano Air Base in Aviano, Italy – not far from where Hemingway was injured in WWI. Malknecht asserts that Hemingway’s use of ambiguity in this collection of interconnected short stories allows space for multiple interpretations. This makes it the perfect text for a lively discussion. Particular attention will be given to four stories: Indian Camp, The Doctor and the Doctor's Wife, The End of Something and Three Day Blow.

This is a free event but registration is required to reserve your spot as space is limited.
