Boxing Day

  • Ernest Hemingway Birthplace Museum 339 North Oak Park Avenue Oak Park, IL, 60302 United States (map)

Boxing Day originated during medieval times, on the day after Christmas when lords of the manor presented the leftovers from their own celebrations to their servants and to local peasants. Their gifts were presented in boxes, hence the name of the day.

Please note, we will be open for tours on Boxing Day but will not be celebrating the day as in years past.
